Morphological Observation of Capitulum Mandibulae of Mandible from Standpoint of Clinic of Dentistry

Abstract
Authors observed the morphology of various surface of capitulum mandibulae of mandibules of 70 Korean human subjects( ¢¥0 45, 9 25), and the results were as follows:
1. The average percentages of three types of degree of depression of upper surface of capitulum mandibulae were as follows;
a. Flatness: 5 66.7%, ¡Æ 82.0%
b. Small pit: 0 13.3%, Y 8.0
c. Fossa: 0 20.0%, 4 10.0%
2. Each long axis of upper surface of capitulum mandibulae converges posteriorly to the line between right and left caput.
3. The form of eminence of posterior surface of capitulum mandibulae were as follows; a. Flatness: 0 35.6%, ¡Æ 32.0
b. Round: 0 61.1%, Y 68.0%
c. Conical or half-round: 0 3.3%
4. The medial pole of the capitulum mandibulae was mostly a conical or half-round tubercle and its lateral pole was a flat-shape.
5. The form of upper margin in mid-sagittal projection of capitulum mandibulae were as follows; a. Round: 0 52.2%, ¡Æ 50.0
b. Tent-like: 0 26.7% 9 26.0
c. Flatness: 6 5.5%, ¡Æ 10.0
d. Spear: 5 1.1%, 9 -
e. Sharply round: 6 14.4%, Y 14.0%
