The Effect of Ginseng Extract on Some Enzyme Activity by Administration of Carbon Tetrachloride

Abstract
This study was deviced to observe some enzyme activities in the serum and the liver of Albino rat treated with carbon tetrachloride and with crude extract of Ginseng. Albino rats, 112 heads were used for this experiment and they were divided into four groups; control injected 0.9% NaCl (group 1), the group injected crude extract of Ginseng (group 11), the group injected carbon tetrachloride (group 1[) and the group injected crude extract after administration of carbon tetrachloride. The treatment of drugs was carried out once a day for 1-8 days, but the group ]Q and IV were injected once carbon tetrachloride at the 1st day beginning experiment. The livers were carefully removed from the rats at 24 hours after drugs were injected and were homogenized at 4¡ÆC and serum was seperated fron the blood collected by heart puncture and was stored at 4¡ÆC for this experiment. The activity of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) were determinded by Reitman and Frankel method and the activity of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) was determined by Wroblewski procedure.
The obtained results are summarized as follows;
1. The administration of crude extract of Ginseng was shown a curing effect on the liver function which was harmed by administration of carbon tetrachloride.
2. The crude extract of Ginseng increased the activities of ensymes at the first administration and the activities of enzymes, after that time, were gradually returned to normal level by the repeated administration of the crude extract of Ginseng.
3. The administration of carbon tetrachloride, 0.24g/head/day, harmed some liver function, and then the activities of some enzymes in the liver and serum were rapidly changed by sigle injection of carbon tetrachloride.
