Preventive Measures for Medical Disputes in Nursing Care


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to contribute to the improvement of nursing quality by analyzing the causes of accidents in nursing.
The samples consisted of 425 nurses working at various, except psychiatric, wards in 13 general` hospitals in Seoul-4 Class A hospitals(above 500 beds), 2 Class B hospitals (300499 beds), 5 Class C hospital-, (150-299 beds) and 2 Class D hospitals (80-149 beds).
The nurses were surveyed by means of questionnaires during the period of August 5- 3,. 1985.
Statistical methods of Chi-Square and percentage comparison were used for the analysis. The results are as follows
1. The longer the periods of nursing experiences were, the more accurate the I.I injection was(p=0.002)
The same pattern was noticed in the application of external medicine (p= 0. 002).
2. In response to questions regarding the reason why blood-taking for test was done ¢¥y nurses themselves, a large percentage of nurses having long professional experiences, responded with "because the work is done quickly when nurses do the work themselves".
the other hand, a large percentage of the group with short experiences responded wi.h.
"because the work is done traditionally by nurses (p=0.006).
Class D hospitals showed the highest rate of 90.3% with regard to the question ite¡í .
"blood-taking is done by nurses", followed by Class A hospitals, Class B hospitals, an.
Class C hospitals in a descending order. "Blood-taking is done by physicians" also receiv:a a high response rate of 46.7%(p<0.001).
3. In the injection of anti-cancer drug, the item "a nurse alone administers the injection showed the highest rate of 54.8% in the 2-year experience group, followed by the above
4-year experience group with 46. 5%. The 2-4-year group showed the lowest rate of 31.7%.?
