The Scapular and Parascapular Free Flaps in the Soft Tissue Reconstruction

Abstract
There has been much improvement of clinical application of myocutaneous, osteocutaneous fl ip and free flap transfer with microsurgery for soft tissue losses in the field of plastic and reconstructive s irgery recently. Especially the importance of clinical free flap transfer was increased in the reconstructive surgery.
Since the first free flap transfer was performed by Daniel and O¢¥Brien in 1973 successfully,.nuruerous donor sites were introduced. The scapular free flap, described by dos Santos in 1980 and utilized by Alain Gilbert in 1982. The parascapular free flap was introduced by Nassif. We had reconstructed five cases of various soft tissue defects with scapular and parascapular free flaps since June, 1986. The anatomy of donor and recipient areas was evaluated with doppler flow meter and arteriography carefully. The microvascular anastomosis was done with end to end anastomosis of one artery and one vein in all :aces. The donor sites were repaired with primary closure in two cases and skin grafts in three cases. The results were successful in all cases without significant complications. So we report this paper with reviews of the relative references.
