Effectiveness of Rociverine citrate in Endoscopic premedication & Treatment of Irritable bowel syndrome

Abstract
The effectiveness and safety of Rociverine citrate were studied in 709 cases of patients who had done upper gastrointestinal fiberscopy (662 cases with Rociverine citrate and 47 cases with Scopolamine butylbromide and 42 cases of `irritable bowel syndrome which had been diagnosed clinically from Oct. 1986. to Mar. 1987 at the Dept. of Int. Medicine of Pusan National University Hospital.
The result were as follows:
1. About the pyloric sphincter opening, 634 cases (95.8%) of Rociverine premeditated group and 44 cases (93.6%) of Scopolamine butylbromide premedicated group showed above than fair response, but there was no signifficant difference between the two groups.
2. Grading of endoscopic maneuver by the endoscopist were very good in 81.7%, good in 17.2%, fair in 0.8%, ineffective in 0.3%, in Rociverine premeditated group and very good in 72.3%, good in 21.3%, fair in 4.3%, ineffective in 2.1%, respectivel, in Scopolamine butylbromide premedicated group. But there was no significant difference between the two groups.
3. Of the 42 cases of irritable bowel syndrome, 94.1% (32/34) of abdominal pain and abdominal discomfort, 83.3% (10/12) of abdominal distension and 90.0% (27/30) of defication difficulty were disappeared within 4 weeks.
4. Of the 42 cases of irritable bowel syndrome, 90.5% (38/42) showed above than fair response after Rociverine treatment.
5. Side effects of Rociverine were noted in 8.8% (58/662) in premediction gorup & 11.9% (5/42) in Irritable bowel syndrome group, most of which were transient and mild.
From the above results, we concluded the Rociverine citrate is safe and effective drug in the endoscopic premedication and treatment of irritable bowel syndrome as alternative to Scopolamine butylbromide.
