Clinical Effect of Pefloxacine in surgical Patients



Abstract
In order to evaluate the effect and safety of the Pefloxacine in surgical patients, 36 patients were treated with Pefloxacine 400mg bid intravenously. Of 36 cases, 28 cases who underwent elective explo-laparotomy were prophylactically treated, 8 cases who had complicated intraabdominal conditions were therapetically treated.
Following results were obtained;
1) Overall efficacy of Pefloxacine for prophylactically treated group and therapeutically treated grow ? were 96% and 75%, respectively.
2) Pefloxacine susceptibility of G(+) bacteria were 70.8% with S. aureus, 60.0% with Coagulas- (-) staphylococcus.
3) Pefloxacine susceptibility of G(-) bacteria were 84.6% with E. coli, 76.9% with Klebsiella spp., 75% with Enterobacter spp., 50% with Citrobacter and Serratia, 20.8% with Pseudomonas spp.
4) Liver function test (SGOT/GPT, SAIK, Bil.), BUN/Cr did not reveal significant change after - administration of Pefloxacine.
5) Side effects of Pefloxacine were observed in 3 cases, each with nausea (2) and urticaria(1).
