Clinical Study on Antihypertensive Effect of Long-acting Nicardipine




Abstract
The antihypertensive effect of long acting nicardipine(40mg nicardipine per tablet) was evaluated in 23 patients with essential hypertension with a dosage of two tablet per day for 10 weeks.
The results were as follows
1) Mean drop in systolic and diastolic pressure were 26rnmHg and 18mmHg respectively (P<0.01), but changes of heart rate were not significant statistically in the sitting position. The mean drop of systolic and diastolic pressure in standing position were 21mmHg and 1 3mmHg respectively (p < 0.01), but heart rate were not changed significantly.
2) At the end of the 10th week of treatment, the systolic pressure in the sitting and standing position were lowered by 30mmHg or more in 7 cases (30% ) and 5 cases (22% ) respectively, 29 to 20mmHg in 7 cases (30%) and 5 cases (22%) , and the diastolic pressure were lowered by 15mmHg or more in 11 cases (48%) and 8 cases (35% ), 14 to lOm-nHg in 2 cases(9%) and 5 cases(22%) respectively.
3) In 8 cases among them, undesirable effects of long acting nicardipine were observed 3 epigastric discomfort, 2 mild headache, 2 fatigue, 2 numbness in the extrimity, 2 constipation, 1 palpitation, 1 dizzness, 1 hot flush, 1 chest discomfort.
