The present study was conducted to evidence the possible different clinical entities among generalized anxiety disorder(GAD), panic disorder with agoraphobia(PANICCA), and panic disorder without agoraphobia (PANICSA).
Thirty-nine patients with GAD, and 46 patients with panic disorder who were divided into two groups as PANICSA and PANICCA, were subjected to evaluate the socio-demographic factors, the clinical features, and the degrees of depression and anxiety. The results were as follows
1. In the GAD, which was predominantly female, there was a higher incidence of females losing their fathers before the age of 30 whereas in the PANICSA group where males were predominant, a higher history rate of paternal loss after the age of 30.
2. The PANICSA group showed relatively shorter duration of illness, more somatic symptoms, a higher mean age and late onset which was significant statistically. (p<0.05)
3. There were stronger psychosocial stressors in the GAD group.
4. The PANICCA group took a longer period for the improvement and had a less favorable outcome than other groups.
