Abstract

|
Female urethral diverticula are more common than heretofore thought, and the suspicion must always be high in the clinician¢¥s mind. Specifically aided by urethroscopy, positive pressure Surethrography, and urodynamics, the physician can determine the number of diverticula & their role is underlying continence mechanisms.
Herein we reviewed 9 cases of female urethral diverticula. Common presentations were dysuria, pus per urethra, dyspareunia and postvoid dribbling. Variable sized masses were were palpable on periurethral anterior vaginal wall :and pus discharge was noticed in 4 patients on squeezing. In pus culture 2 patients showed E. coli & one named Staphylococcal infection. Two diverticula revealed in radiologic studies. Excision of diverticula was performed in 8 cases, transvaginal marsupialization in one case. One patient showed mass in the diverticulum and the pathologic result revealed adenocarcinoma. No complication was noted except the cancer case which developed urethrovaginal fistula.
