A prospective study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Broncho-Vaxom on children with recurrent respiratory infections. Study population consisted of 32 children(group I ; 22 children with acute respiratory symptoms, group II ; 10 children without acute respiratory symptoms). Group I children received one Broncho-Vaxom capsule every morning before meal during the first month and the last 10 days of second & third month, and group 11 children received one Broncho-Vaxom capsule every morning before meal for 10 days of 3 months, consecutively. The following results were obtained.
The mean severity of acute infectious episodes was higher(p<0.05) in patients before treatment than after treatment of both groups, and three symptoms such as cough, expectoration & wheeze, were diminished significantly in group I , and there was a statistically significant reduction in consumption of antibiotics and antitussive, in both groups. The therapeutic effect of group I was judged as positive(moderate, good and very good)in 20 out of 22 patients(91 %), and positive effect was seen in the preventive effect of group H(9 out of 10. 90%).
From this study, it can be said that Broncho-Vaxom is quite beneficial to the treatment and prevention of recurrent respiratory tract infections in children.
