A clinical study on the efficacy and the safety of Sodium vaiproate(DEPAKINE^(¢ç)) injection for the prevention and the treatment of seizure





Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sodium valproate injection DEPAKINE) . Total number of neurosurgical patients under sodium valproate injection was 25, and they have received a slow bolus intravenous dose of 800mg sodium valproate given over 5 minute on entry to the study followed by and intravenous infusion of between 0.5-1.0mg/kg/hr.
The results were as follows
1. Clinical efficacy was 96%, and only one out of 25 patients showed an aura symptom during the treatment.
2. Three among four patients who had had a seizure or aura recovered with Sod. valproate injection.
3. Sodium valproate injection was safe without any disturbances in organ function, but with the respective one case of headache, vomiting and prupitus.
