Effect of Cyaninoside HCL(Meralop^(¢ç)) in Progressive Intermediate Myopes

Abstract
Cyaninoside HCL (Meralop¢ç) , which belongs to the group of vitamin P factors, on the retina can be explained through the pharmacological mechanisms which enhance the regeneration of retinal photopigment. Such a capability is related to the action of anthocyanoside on the cellular membrane (improvement of metabolic transport) and the microcirculation(protective effect on capillarys). We conducted an open, prospective non comparative study for Meralop¢ç effect on twenty one progressive, intermediate myopic patients after 3 months administration of Meralop¢ç and we evaluated Meralop¢ç effect by means of cycloplegic refraction, adapto electroretinography(AERG) and contrast sensitivity.
The results were as follows.
1. The change of cycloplegic refraction between premedication and postmedication 3 months group was from -4.13¡¾1.83 diopter to -4.31¡¾1.71 diopter, which change is not statistically significant.
2. In adapto-ERG, appearance of alpha point was 9.21¡¾2.85 minutes at premedication group, 7.84¡¾2.59 minutes at postmedication 1 month group, and 7.67¡¾1.50 minutes at postmedication 3 months group, which is statistially significant when compared with time of premedication group.
3. In contrast sensitivity measurement, contrast sensitivity increased at frequency 12 of night vision in postmediation 1 month, and frequency 12 and 18 of night vision with central glare in postmedication 3 months group, which is statistically significant when compared with contrast sensitivity of premedication group.
4. Any side effect during Meralop¢ç administration were not reported.
These results show that Meralop¢ç is effective to reduce progression of intermediate myopia and improve contrast sensitivity in high spatial frequency of night vision. But we believe that the effect of Meralop¢ç for progression of myopia should be follwed up more longer.
