An Analytical Study on Stressors experienced by Nursing Students during Clinical Practice


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide basic materials for efficient guidance to clinical nursing education by grasping stressors experienced by nursing students during clinical practice.
The subject of this study is 102 nursing students in Kyungpook Junior College.
Self-reported questionnaire was distributed to the students to collect necessary
data and the data were collected from Jan. 17 to Jan. 19, 1994. .
Data analysis was done by using Anova and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The results of study are as follows ;
1. "Nursing Activity" is the category in which students experience most severe stress at a mean 3.507 and "Personal Relations¢¥ is the category in which nursing students experience mildest stress at a mean 2.270.
2. The highest rank of stressors is "When They Commit an Error" at a mean 4.238, and the lowest rank of stressors is "Relations with Aid-nurses" at a mean 2.020.
3. Considering the stressors involved in each category, the results are follows
1) In "Environment", "Lack of Information and Reference in Clinical Field" is revealed. as the most severe stressor at a mean 3.451, and "Irregular Life Schedule¡± is revealed as the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 2.775.
2) In "Personal Relations , "Relations with Head Nurse¢¥ is revealed as the most severe stressor at- a mean 3.030, and "Relations with Aid-nurses" is revealed as the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 2.020.
3) In "Nursing Knowledge and Skill", "Case Study is revealed as the most severe stressor at a mean 3.873, and "Inadequate Nursing Recording is revealed as the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 3.481.
4) In "Nursing Role¢¥, "Lack of Independent Nursing Role" is revealed as the most severe stressor at a mean 3.795, and "Difference in Self-dignity or Conviction of Self-position" is revealed as the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 2.844.
5) In "Nursing Activity", "Making Mistakes during Clinical Practice" is revealed as the most severe stressor at a mean 4.138, and "Patient¢¥s In cooperation" is revealed as the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 3.422.
4. The relationships among 5 categories reveal significant correlation in all categories (P(0.001)
5. Considering the relationship between the categories of stressors and the general characteristics, the results are as follows
1) "Nursing Role" showed significant differences by rank of birth. (P<0.05)
2) "Nursing Knowledge and Skill" showed significant differences ¢¥by entrance motivation. (P(0.01)
3) "Personal Relations" showed significant differences by satisfaction degree of nursing sci Lnce and clinical practice. (P<0. 05)
