Efficay of Idebenone(Kedanon^(®)) for Chronic Behavioral Sequelae in Stroke Patients

Abstract

|
Idebenone has been known to improve the late behavioral problems of the stroke patients. In this open trial, we tested the clinical efficacy and safety of idebenone in 20 patients whose stroke lesions became stabilized after a mean period of 15.3±12.71 months, ranging 4-48. The drug was given orally with the dose of 30mg t, i. d. or 90mg per day. The clinical efficacy was assessed neuropsychologically. During and after 8-week trial Idebenone improved subjective and emotional symptoms, spontaneity, average daily living activities, and cognitive functions (p<0.01). There was no significant side effect during the trial. We conclude that idebenone can be used as a .safe and effective agent for the stroke patients with late neurobehavioral sequelae.
