The Effect of Functional Electrical Stimulation on the Hand Function in Hemiplegic Patients

Abstract

|
The Effect of Functional Electrical Stimulation(FES) on the hand function was evaluated in 10 hemiplegic patients whose onset of hemiplegia were less than 3 months. The patients were treated 30 minutes twice daily for 2 months and the effect of the treatment was evaluated for FES of hand flexor muscles and hand extensor muscles, in addition to their general rehabilitation program.
The results of theis study, improvement has been noted of the effective treatment methods to improve the hand grip function and hand power of hemiplegic upper extremity. This study suggests that the FES program can be effective treatment response in early treatment.
I hope that more prognostic evaluation for the functional electrical stimulation in hemiplegic patients.
