Studies on the 5´-Nucleotidase of the Human Placenta

Abstract
|
|
|
The plasma membrane bound 5´-Nucleotidase of the human placenta was investigated in relation to the placental age.
The results were as follows:.
1. Inhibitory effect of con-A on the early plecental 5´-Nucleotidase increased proporti￢onately from 5ag to 20pg and was reversed by D-Mannose and D-Glucose but not by D-Galactose, L-arabinose and D-xylose.
2. Ribomononucleotides were preferable substrates for the 5´-Nucleotidase to deoxyribo mononucleotides.
3. The placental 5´-Nucleotidase was heat stable equally in all placeutal ages
4. Activity of the placental 5´-Nucleotidase did not change with placental age while that of nonspecific phosphatase was increased with the placental age.
5. Mn 2* was required for maximal activity of the placental 5´-Nucleotidase among the four ions(Mn2´, C02+, Ca 2+, Mg`+. )
