Abstract
Clean voided urine specimens from 211 male patients with urinary tract infection, and from 90 healthy men were cultured for Ureaplasma urealyticum. The isolation rates of Ureaplasma urealyticum in the vaginal swabs of 77 female patients with genito-urinary tract infection, of 62 pregnant women, of 97 healthy non-pregnant women and of 97 prostitutes were also investigated.
The results were summarized as follows:
1. In male, the recovery rates of Ureaplasma in the urine from patients with urethritis, prostatitis, cystitis and healthy men were 43.2, 40.9, 33.3 and 27.7 percent. , respectively.
2. In female, the isolation rates of Ureaplasma in the vaginal swabs from patients with vaginitis, other urinary infection, pregnant women, healthy non-pregnant women, and prostitutes were 53. 7, 43. 4, 51. 6, 31. 9 and 74. 6 percent., respectively.
3. The recovery rates of Ureaplasma urealyticum in the urine of male patients with urethritis and prostatitis, and from the vaginal swabs of female patients with vaginitis were significantly higher than in the healthy men and women.
4. The isolation rates of Mycoplasma sp in the urine from urethritis, prostatitis
patients and healthy men, and in the vaginal swabs from vaginitis, pregnant women and healthy women were 5. 1, 4.5, 3.3, 7, 4, 8.0 and 6.1 percent, respectively. There were no significant differences in the recovery rates of Mycoplasma sp. in the genitourinary tract between healthy men, pregnant women, and men and women with the signs of genital infections.
5. There were no significant differences in the color changing units(101-102) of Ureaplasma urealyticum from the tested specimens between healthy men and women and patients with genito-urinary tract infections, but in the prostitutes, color changing units (103) were significantly higher than the patients and healthy persons.
