Effects of Ginseng on Peripheral Blood of Rabbits treated with Cyclophosphamide

Abstract
Cyclophosphamide, the drug used widely for treatment of malignancy, nephritic syndrome, and some collagen diseases, has severe bone marrow depression effect. The author tried in this experiment to observe whether ginseng, which is known to have protective action to toxic substance, is effective against the toxicity of cyclophosphamide.
The experiment was performed in four groups: the control, ginseng treated, cyclophosphamide treated, and ginseng-cyclophosphamide treated group.
The result were as follows.
1. There were no differences in the value of hematocrit and leukocyte count between the control and ginseng treated group. Anemia and leucopoenia were less evident in ginseng-cyclophosphamide treated group than in cyclophosphamide treated one.
2. No significant differences were noted in the platelet count of peripheral blood among the control, ginseng, cyclophosphamide and ginseng-cyclophosphamide treated group.
