Clinical Analysis on the Surgery of Cerebellopontine Angle Tumors

Abstract
The author analyzed 33 operation of cerebellopontine angle tumors which were performed during the last 5 years at Chungnam National University Hospital. The most frequent tumor was acoustic schwannoma(64%), followed by meningioma. The most
frequent
clinical manifestations were hearing disturbance and headache.
Eighteen cases among the 33 operation (55%) were over 4cm in diameter. All cases were operated on with suboccipital craniectomy, except 3 cases, which used the petrosal presigmoid approach. Gross total resection was possible in 16 cases(48.5%).
Seventy
five percent of the cases revealed excellent or good prognosis postoperatively. The most frequent postoperative complication was facial nerve palsy.
The author's experience suggests that neurosurgeons need early detection of tumors, more surgical experience and careful intraoperative monitorings in order to improve the surgical results of cerebellopontine angle tumors.
