An Exploratory Study on the Elderly Risk BehaviorAn Behaviors

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to study the risk behaviors of the elderly people based on literature reviews of adolescent studies, to indicate the patterns of the elderly risk behaviors, and to discuss the issues of destroying health in the elderly. The patterns of the elderly risk behaviors are to be classified with smoking, drinking, substance abuse, and suiciding behaviors: the population of smoking in the elderly is 17.6 percentages, smoking can be one of major factors in chronic diseases for the elderly, and it may have a negative effect on the quality of life and a bad impact to healthy behaviors of the elderly, associated with alcohols and foods. Drinking population is about 34.1 percentages among the elderly, and the elderly men are higher than the women. According to some studies related to this, drinking can have a negative effect on physical health and self-esteem of the elderly people. In the case of medical drugs, more than 90.9 percentages of the elderly have their chronic diseases and 81.2 percentages have used medical drugs for therapy and health. The factors which influence to drug use are absence of spouse, low health information, and chronic disease. The rate of the elderly suicide is 23.4 percentage; the elder men are higher than the elder women. As a single factor, the rate shows that depression is the most essential factor for the elderly suicide. The further study will need to research whether depression is associated with the quality of life and risk behaviors in the elderly people. The elderly risk behaviors and its related studies will be consistently needed because aging process is increasing rapidly in modern society and the problems of the risk behaviors in the elderly will be an important issue in public health of the society.
