Abstract
This study explores the moderating effects of leisure participation in the relationship between depression and suicide of the elderly who lives alone. 1040 elderlies who lived in Nowon, Seoul participated in this study. Logistic regression analysis was adopted. Results indicate that higher level of depression is positively related to the higher probability of attempted suicide. In addition, leisure participation moderated the effects of depression on the probability of attempted suicide . Practical implications of this study for the elderly¡¯s suicide who lives alone are two folds; One is that, in order
to decrease the probability of attempted suicide, depression should be put into consideration; The other is that social factor such as leisure participation should be included in the intervention for elderly¡¯s suicide with individual factors. Overall, this study lays a groundwork for the suicide of the elderly who lives alone.
