Mediation Effect of Ego-Integrity between Social Connectedness and Life Satisfaction among Community-Dwelling Middle aged and Elderly

Abstract

|
Purpose: In this study, we aimed to examine the mediation effect of Ego-Integrity in the relationship between social connectedness and life satisfaction among middle-aged and elderly residents in the local community.
Methods: Data for this study were collected from residents who visited the village community center and healthcare clinic in Town A from June to August 2021. Among the collected data, 148 cases were analyzed using the SPSS 27.0 statistics software. To investigate the mediation effect of ego-Integrity in the relationship between social connectedness and life satisfaction, we conducted a multiple regressionn analysis.
Results: The results showed statistically significant differences in the subjective economic status and subjective interpersonal relationships of the participants. Social connectedness had a positive and significant correlation with life satisfaction(r=.39, p<.001), and ego-integrity also had a positive and significant correlation with social connectedness(r=.57, p<.001). Furthermore, life satisfaction and ego-integrity were also positively and significantly correlated (r=.71, p<.001). In the relationship between social connectedness and life satisfaction, ego-integrity acted as a complete mediator.
Conclusion: Humans live within social relationships, which have a diverse impact on the lives of individuals, making social connectedness crucial for a satisfying life. This social connectedness can lead to life satisfaction through ego-integrity, Thus. this study emphasizes the need for various efforts to achieve ego-integrity.
