The Distribution of Salmonella in Mammals in Dalsung Park (Daegu) and Genetic Investigation of Isolates

Abstract
The aim of the study was to examine the distribution of Salmonella in zoo animals in Dalsung park(Taegu). Also, the study was to investigate the genetic relationship between Salmonella strains isolated from zoo animals and chicken carcass processed in Taegu area by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE).
Out of the eighty-six feces of animals consisting of 24 carnivores, 18 omnivores and 44 herbivores, 4 strains of Salmonella spp. were isolated from only carnivore.
Among the isolates, two strains of Sal. montevideo, one strain of Sal. derby and one strain of Sal. infantis were identified by serotyping.
In PFGE, agarose plugs containing the DNA were digested with restriction enzyme Xba¥°.
Same Salmonella species isolated from zoo animals(carnivore) of Dalsung park and chicken carcass processed in Taegu area had the same PFGE patterns respectively.
