A Study on Nursing Students¢¥ Health Promoting Behavior
Lee Og-Cheol

Abstract
This descriptive correlational study was done to indentify the level of health promoting behavior and its predicting factors in nursing students theoretically based on Pender¢¥s Health Promotion Model(1996).
The data was collected from 352 nursing students attending at a diploma course through structured self-reporting questionnaire.
The main independent variables were the experience of clinical practice and self-esteem.
The results of hypothetical testing were as follows:
1) The level of self-esteem was 2.95, relatively high. The more experienced clinically, the higher score of self-esteem. Therefore, the first hypothesis was supported.
2) The level of health promoting behavior was 2.55 slightly higher than
moderate. The more experienced clinically, the higher score of health promoting
behavior. Therefore, the second hypothesis was supported.
3) Between the variables, there were a significant correlation. (p(.O1)
4) The independent variable of self-esteem explained 19.3% of variance as
the most significant effector. The clinical experience variable added its
explanatory power 21.2% of total variance.
