To evaluate the usage of blood components at the Capital Armed Forces General Hospital, 13,312 transfused patients were investigated. From 1986 to 1992.
The authors chiefly analyzed the following aspects: the trend of blood transfusion by year, the rate of blood component transfusion, the rate of whole blood transfusion by clinical department and the rate of one unit transfusion.
The results are summarized as follows;
1. The rate of blood component transfusion was 27.3% in 1986, and it gradually increased from 1988 to 1992(68.2%).
2. Among the blood components transfused, the use of platelet concentrate and fresh frozen plasma was relatively high.
3. The rate of whole blood transfusion was the highest in department of orthopedics.
4. The rate of 1 unit or 2 units transfusion of whole blood was 33.5%, and 1 unit transfusion of whole blood was the highest in department of general surgery.
The rate of blood component transfusion is low until now, and it is desirable not to use 1 unit of whole blood for surgery.
