Abstract

|
We experienced five patients with pelvic actinomycosis. All patients had been using copper containing intrauterine contraceptive device. Two cases were diagnosed intraoperatively and received drainage and penicillin therapy. Three cases were diagnosed preoperatively and received penicillin therapy only. All cases had good response to penicillin therapy and were fully recovered. Conclusively preoperative diagnosis can be made by prudent review of clinical manifestation and imaging study, long term penicillin therapy and close follow-up can avoid extensive surgery and associated morbidity
