Abstract
Purpose:Detrended fluctuation analysis has been used to evaluate a long range correlation of noisy signals such as electroencephalography. This study was carried out to find a relationship between scaling exponents and frequencies of brain waves using detrended fluctuation analysis.

Materials and Methods : Twenty normal subjects were recruited from a university hospital. Filtered four kinds of signals (delta, theta, alpha and beta) from only O1 lead of total thirty channels were used for the evaluation of the scaling exponent by detrended fluctuation analysis.

Results:The scaling exponents, alpha, were significantly different according to their frequencies. The alpha of delta frequency was highest and those of theta, alpha and beta were arranged in order of size. The post hoc test showed their significant differences persisted.

Conclusion:This study showed that each oscillations have different scaling exponents and slow wave have the higher variability for a long range. These results suggest that the variabilities of slow waves such as delta and theta result from internal factor more than external environment.
