Abstract
Although the incidence of multiple primary cancers has increased recently, quadruple synchronous primary cancers remain extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a combination of primary cancers of the lung, duodenum, rectum, and prostate. A 78-year-old man presented with abdominal discomfort and a lung mass on chest radiography. Computed tomography of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis revealed multiple enhancing lesions in the right lower lung, duodenum, rectum, and prostate. Pathological and immunohistochemical examinations revealed that each tumor had distinct histology and the patient was diagnosed with a quadruple synchronous primary cancer. Although extremely rare, if patients with a confirmed malignancy present with metastatic lesions in unusual locations or unusual clinical presentations, clinicians should consider the possibility of multiple synchronous primary cancers to enable appropriate local or systemic therapy.
