Liver Transplantation

Abstract
Liver transplantation now has gained to be an accepted therapeutic method throughout the world. It has been shown, that it may be used with good success in otherwise lethal endstages of many so-called benign diseases, particularly in liver
cirrhosis of
different origin; it may cure inborn metabolic errors of liver; it may be life-saving in fulminant courses of liver failure; and it may prolong life or-more exceptionally-may be curative for tumor patients.
However, liver transplantation is hindered worldwide by lack of general experience, by economical reasons and by lack of donor organs. The latter factor is predominant in our country, where brain death is not realized as death or people are not
used to
accept this. A first successful liver transplantation was performed on August 1992 at the Asan Medical Center, Ulsan University. Described herein is our experience of first one-vear's liver transplantation and recent innovations of
transplantation
procedure.
