This review describes about the relationship between bio-diesel production and composition of polysaccharides derived from micoralga such as Tetraselmis sp., Dunaliella tertiolecta, Botryococcus brauni, and Nannochloropsis oculata. The monosaccharide composition of the polysaccharides obtained from those de-fatted cell walls was elucidated by HPAEC chromatograms. According to our investigation which analyzed some features of monosaccharide composition and fatty acid composition, we found that dominant sugar was identified as glucose of de-fatted microalgal cells that produces relatively large amount of fatty acid inside the cells. These information can provide valuable idea to establish a carbohydrate-base library for the selection of micro-algae for the production of bio-diesel and some specific sugars including rare sugars. Consequently, this review demonstrates that investigation of monosaccharide composition of de-fatted cells of micro-alga has a great potential for the control of bio-diegel production.
