Objectives:This study investigated the clinical characteristics according to temperament and character in patients with panic disorder.
Methods:Thirty-eight patients with panic disorder and 38 normal controls administered Temperament and Character Inventory(TCI) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2(MMPI-2).
Results:Results of t-tests showed that two groups were significantly different with each other in TCI subscales with Harm Avoidance(HA), Self-Directedness(SD), and in MMPI-2 subscales with Hypochondriasis(Hs), Depression(D), Hysteria(Hy), Psychopathic Deviance(Pd), Paranoia(Pa), Psychasthenia(Pt), Schizophrenia(Sc), and Social Introversion(Si). A series of hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that MMPI-2 subscales were significantly explained by SD subscale of TCI.
Conclusion:Various clinical characteristics in patients with panic disorder might be expressed heavily by the temperamental vulnerability of anxiety.
