Healing the Effects of an Extramarital Affair: A Taopsychotherapy Approach

Abstract

|
Objectives: This case study examined the use of Rhee Dongshik’s Taopsychotherapy approach to resolve a client’s continuing emotional conflicts resulting from a childhood experience of an extramarital affair.
Methods: According to Dongshik’s model, clients must grasp and then free themselves of the grip of their nuclear feelings, which can dominate their thoughts and behaviors. In keeping with the Taopsychotherapy approach, the therapist met 8 times with the client for 90-minute sessions.
Results: The therapist assisted the subject in understanding and accepting that her conflict was occurring because her nuclear feelings were dominated by her reactions to the affair.
Conclusions: Taopsychotherapy allows clients to change nuclear feelings through the healing process of therapeutic empathy.
