The Mental Health Social Work Practice Considering Korean Ethnic Sentiments, Jeong(ï×)

Abstract
The purposes of this study is to reflect whether Korean social workers have fairly considered the unique Korean culture in the process of practicing the social work and to identify the effective strategies for the mental health social work emphasizing Koreans¡¯ ethnic sentiment, especially named ¡¯Jeong(ï×)¡¯. For this purpose, the existing literature is comparatively analysed, and the deeper discussion is unfolded on the basis of the researcher¡¯s experience and insight. In this study, it is recognized that ¡¯Jeong¡¯ has some special properties : connectedness, diversity, common understanding, collectiveness, and mutual aid. Related to these characteristics, the each mental health social work practice, for example, assessment, relationship, interventions, values, and ethics are reconsidered. Also it examines Korean social workers¡¯ self awareness based on these aspects. Through these analysis, mental health social work practice strategies considering Korean ethnic sentiment are examined. Against this background, it is clear that Western values do not have the same effect on the Korean people. Likewise, the social work practice by the Western culture can perform a different function in the Korean culture. In conclusion, the importance of cultural sensitivity
