30 Years Delayed Grief - Autoethnography on the Sudden Loss of a Family Member
Ha Jung-Mi

Abstract
This Study is to understand my experiences of sudden loss of a family member and of volunteer counseling in Sewol ferry disaster applying Freud¡¯s and Derrida¡¯s grief theories using autoethnography.
As the result the story has been formed that I, grown in 70¡¯s suppressive family, was a small idol in the family so that I felt strong responsibility and was used to repress feelings. I was traumatized for my little sister¡¯s sudden death by a traffic accident, but unable to find any chances to express my feelings. So I suffered for various physical and emotional symptoms over 30 years. As I started to study Social Work I happen to see myself and to restore myself. In Sewol ferry disaster I counseled various people who were traumatized and was able to go on a grief process with them. Through this experiences I was able to face myself especially feelings of unreasonable guilts and express my feelings. Finally I was able to say good bye to my sister and hold the survivors¡¯ hands as a counselor.
