Abstract

When evaluating Junction ol the hand, we haute to count on some well-known evaluation protocol such as McBride¡¯s table, which is mainly focussed on the range of motion of individual anatomical joint. To assess disability and the effectiveness of treatment of the hand, however, it is important to be able to evaluate a patient¡¯s functional capabilities.
The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of virtual glove for the accessing functional capability of the hand as an organ. With putting on the virtual glove, the range of motion of fingers and wrist was measured and summed at each 4 functional motions (pinching, apposition, grasp and counting), which are commonly used in activities of daily living.
Functions of the splinted normal hand, measured by the virtual glove system were similar to that of McBrides evaluation, whereas that of a patients hand was greater than what McBrides measurements does. It is suggested that this test may be of value in clinical or research situations by providing objective evaluation of several major aspects of hand function.
