Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of CBDT on obesity and lipid metabolism by using high-fat diet rats.
Methods: Rats were divided into five groups. Normal group: Normal diet, Control group: High-fat diet, Positive control group: High-fat diet + Dietamin 4§·/§¸/day, CBDT_Low group: High-fat diet + CBDT 250 §·/§¸/day, CBDT_High group: High-fat diet + CBDT 500 §·/§¸/day. Weight, food intake were measured every week.
After 7 weeks, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, TG, free fatty acid, AST, ALT, CBC were measured and mRNA expression of adiponectin, PPAR-¥ã, leptin were observed using RT-PCR of liver cells.
Results: There was no difference in food intake between groups. Body weight tended to decrease compared with the
Control group, but it wasn¡¯t statistically meaningfull. The total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, TG, free fatty acid tended to decrease compared with the Control group. HDL-cholesterol tended to decrease compared with the Control group, but it wasn¡¯t statistically meaningfull. WBC, RBC, Hb, PLT, AST, ALT were not affected by CBDT. The mRNA expression of Adiponectin, PPAR-¥ã, leptin, which are involved in the differentiation of adipocytes, was decreased compared with the Control group.
Conclusions: Based on the results above, it is suggested that CBDT can be applied to hyperlipidemia clinically.
