Background : Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of monitoring antimicrobial use is increasing. The role of pharmacists for personalized medication considering the latest drug information and patient clinical conditions is very important. So far, no Korean research has reported the role of pharmacists participating as a member of multidisciplinary team in communicable disease isolation units (CDIU) during the novel infectious disease pandemic.
Methods : Clinical data with personal information deleted were reviewed retrospectively. The role of clinical pharmacists in infectious diseases was examined by analyzing pharmaceutical services provided by clinical pharmacists at a CDIU in a tertiary teaching hospital.
Results : Key pharmaceutical services provided by clinical pharmacist had five categories: evidence-based treatment, clinical pathway development, drug formula and shortage management, multidisciplinary team member, and prospective evaluation of drug therapy.
Conclusion : This report confirmed the role of pharmacists having a good understanding of drug treatment as essential members in the multidisciplinary team. It is meaningful in that we report the possibility of expanding clinical pharmacists¡¯ professional functions in Korea for the first time.
