Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was identified between children¢¥s attitude toward gender roles and mother¢¥s conception on gender egalitarianism.

Method: This study used a cross-sectional survey design with a convenience sample of 604 sixth elementary school students and their mothers who were at six elementary schools located in Busan. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire where ¢¥conception on gender egalitarianism¢¥, ¢¥gender role attitude¢¥ were measured.

Result: 1. The mothers¢¥ conception on gender egalitarianism was 229.14 26.85 (potential range from 80 to 320) and children¢¥s attitude on gender roles was 23.09 4.84(potential range from 0 to 32). 2. There were significantly negative correlations between the mothers¢¥ conception on gender egalitarianism and children¢¥s attitude on gender roles(r=-.314, p<.001). 3. There were differences between mother¢¥s education level, monthly income, and preference of sex for their children and gender egalitarianism. Mothers who had higher education, earn more income and prefer daughters showed better conception than those who did not.

Conclusion: Mothers¢¥ conception on gender egalitarianism influence children¢¥s attitude toward gender roles and this tells that the better mothers¢¥ conception is, the more flexible attitude their children have toward gender roles.
