Methods : Among 6,477 women of 40-64 years old in Moo Ahn County, 711 women were conveniently sampled from the population of each group stratified by 3 age groups and catchment area for 8 health subcenters and 5 community health practitioner¡¯s posts. A personal interview was conducted with Marital Intimacy Questionnaire and stress questionnaire(4 points scale from 1 to 4 and 0 to 3, respectively) from 22 November to 20 December 1999. A higher score meant higher stress level and lower marital intimacy.
Results : Forty percent of the women had low level(O-5 point) of psychological stress, 31.7% had average level(6-12 points), 20.8% had precaution level(l3-19 points), and 7.5% had warning leve(over 20 points). For the physical stress, 20.1% of the women had low level (0-5 points), 34.8% had average level(6-12 points), 29.4% had precaution level(l3-19 points), and 15.7% had warning level(over 20 points). A low level of both psychological and physical stress was associated with a high marital intimacy level.
