The ethical values : a comparison of freshman and senior nursing students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the ethical values of freshman (N=136) and senior nursing students(N=l11). The data were collected through self-reported questionnaires in April, 1999. Categories for classifying used in content analysis of responses were : (l) human life area (2) patient relationship area (3) task relationship area (4) co-worker relationship area. The results of the study were as follows; (1) The ethical values of freshman slightly took up deontological position and that of senior took up the position of utilitarian in human life area. The mean score of freshman and senior was significant difference(P<0.01). (2) The ethical values of freshmen and senior slightly took up deontological position in patient relationship area. (3) The ethical values of freshmen and senior slightly took up the position of utilitarian in task relationship area (4) The ethical values of freshmen and senior greatly took up deontological position in co-worker area. (5) The ethical values of freshmen related to demographic characteristics of participation degree in religion( P<0.01) in human life and task relationship area and recognition degree of ethical codes (P < 0.01) in patient relationship area. The ethical values of senior were related to demographic characteristics of participation degree in religion( P<0.01) in human life and area, education of ethics (P<0.05) in patient relationship area and recognition degree of ethical codes (P < 0.05) in co-worker relationship area.
