The Relationship of Job Stress, Coping Strategies and Job Satisfaction of Operating Room Nurses

Abstract
This study was designed to identify the relationship of job stress, coping strategies and job satisfaction of operating room nurses. The subjects were 131 nurses working in the operation room in 4 university hospitals in Deajon. The instruments were the job stress scale developed by Koo & Kim(1984), coping strategies scale developed by Lazarus & Folkman(1984) and job satisfaction scale developed by Slavitt(1978). Analysis of data was done was descriptive statistics, Cronbach¡¯s a, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The result of this study were summarized as followes; 1. The average score for the level of job stress of operating room nurses was 3.61 point, coping strategies score was 1.47 and job satisfaction was 2.96. 2. There was no significant job characteristics and job stress, coping strategies. Job satisfaction showed significant difference by years of career(F=7.711 ,p<.001), job position(F=5.769, p<.005), labor turnover experience(t=-3.122 ,p<.05). 3. The relationship between job stress and coping strategies and the relationship between coping strategies and job satisfaction showed no significant difference while between the job stress and job satisfaction showed negative correlation(r=-.275 p<.01).
