Abstract
The ultimate goal for nursing discipline is to promote health of the human. Understanding the attitude of human is considered to be the prior to understanding the human health behavior in order to discuss the promotion of health of the human. The purposes of this study were to identify the tendency of studies of the Korean nursing scholars and to provide a direction of the future nursing research relating to the human attitude. The analysis was done by reviewing 190 theses of masters and doctors in nursing from 1970 to 2000, which used an ¡¯attitude¡¯ in the title. All of the original theses from the National Central Library were reviewed for this study. The results of the study were as followings: 1. The number of theses that covered ¡¯attitude¡¯ has gradually increased: 4(2.1%) from 1970 to 1975, 48(25.3%) from 1991 to 1995, and 42(22.1%) from 1996 to 2000. 2. The most research was a survey(n=110, 57.9%). An experimental research that used ¡¯attitude¡¯ for a main concept was done in 1986 for the first time, and the number of experimental studies seemed to be increasing. Since 1996, there were three theses which used Q methodology as a qualified study. 3. The most subjects was general public(n=120, 63.2%). The research for the community health nursing(n=36, 18.9%) was the most frequent study in terms of the area of nursing. The attitude toward sex was the most frequent(n=33, 17.4%) topic among the main topic of the study. 4. The result of analysis of the contents of ¡¯attitude¡¯ from the abstracts and the research tools has revealed that the number of studies including all of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral attitude was 84(44.2%).
The suggestions of the study are as followings: 1. An experimental study for driving positive and desirable behavioral changes for health promotion is needed. 2. Development of the tools for the measurement of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral attitude is needed.
