Development and Evaluation of Critical Pathway for Patients Undergoing Coronary Angriography

Abstract
The purpose of the study were to develop the critical pathway for patients undergoing coronary angiography and to evaluate the effectiveness for its application in order to enhance quality of care and provide basic Information to other areas in developing critical pathway. Data were collected from July 17 to September 23, 2004 from a university hospital in D city with 184 patients who admitted for coronary angiography and agreed to participate in the study. Total of 63 patients were applied with CP and the other 121 patients were underwent CAG without CP. The data were entered and analyzed with SPSSWIN V. 10.0 and the results were as follows. 1) The standardized critical pathway was developed for patients undergoing coronary angiography. 2) The patients applied with CP reported significantly higher satisfaction on explanation from health professionals, communication, and knowledge regarding discharge education (p= .000) In conclusion critical pathway should be implemented to provide cost effective and consistent medical service for patients undergoing coronary angiography, and consequently improve patients¡¯ satisfaction to medical service, along with the satisfaction of health professionals at hospital setting.
