Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the parenting, level of stress and school adaptation of children using health service room in elementary schools and to figure out the correlation between each variables. The subjects of study included 315 male and female students in their 6th grade from and elementary school located in Cheongju city, Chungcheongbuk-do and the study was conducted using the questionnaires from Feb. 14, 2005 to Feb. 19, 2005. The parenting test used in the study is the in the scope of acceptance-rejection and autonomy-control, the stress test is composed of sub-sections such as parents, family environment, friends, school work, teachers and school and neighboring environment and the school adaptation test consists of the sub-sections as in the following: the relationship with teachers and classmates, school classes and school regulations. The following are the results of the said study: There were significant differences between the frequency of using the health service room and parenting. In case that one used the health service room almost every day. the score of acceptance in one¡¯s mother was low in case that one¡¯s parents were acceptive while the score of one¡¯s mother was high in case that one¡¯s parents were rejective: meanwhile, it turned out that the score of autonomy in one¡¯s father was low in terms of autonomous parenting. In the analysis of questions relating to the stress, the average of the entire stress level was 2.09, and that of school works in the lower section was 2.91 (the highest one) and it was followed by the parent section, whose average was 2.64. It has been demonstrated that there were significant differences between the frequency of using the health service room and the level of stress and the use of health service room in the sub-sections of friends, teachers and schools. There were no significant differences between the frequency of using the health service room and school adaptation. In terms of the correlation between the parenting and stress and school adjustment, the correlation between the parenting and stress was negative correlation between the parenting and stress was negative correlation(r=-.235, P=.000) and the correlation between the parenting and school adjustment was positive correlation (r=.305, P=.000)and the correlation between the stress and school adaptation showed negative correlation(r=-.248, P=.000). There were significant correlations between parenting, stress and school adjustment so that it would be required to take a look at the children carefully and establish a subsequent measure. Furthermore, it is required not only to play a passive role to solve the problems of children who use health service room frequently while appealing various symptoms, but also to play an active role in preventing the illness of children from happening and enhancing their health.
