Kim Dal-Sook

Moon Won-Hee
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to meta-analyze the relationships between the religiousness related variables and hope.

Method: The relevant researches from Jan 1980 to Dec 2003 in adults or adults patients, were collected. Using SAS program, meta-analysis were done with the number of the samples and the correlation coefficients provided from most of the studies or transformed from F value, as input data.

Results: The intrinsic religion has a closing value to large positive effects on hope(D=.793) with significance statistically(p=.000). The positive effect of religion status on hope is classified as the low level(D=0.353) by Cohen¡¯s criteria but significant statistically(p=.000). And the positive effect of extrinsic religion on hope is in the low level(D=.206) and not significant statistically(p=.268). The Fail -Safe number showed the meta-analysis results regarding relationships between the religion related variables and hope were not reliable except the result of relationship between religion status and hope.
Conclusions: The results would guide to develop hope theory and hope enhancing intervention.
