Anti-inflammation, Development and Curative Effects of HwalHyelTangkam i(Huoxuetangjiawei) on the Collagen-Induced Arthritis in Rats

Abstract
Objectives: This study was carried out to investigated the Anti-inflammation, Development and Curative Effects of HwalHyelTangkami (Huoxuetangjiawei) on the Collagen-Induced Arthritis in Wistar rats and ICR mouse.

Methods: In experiment 1, Studies on the inhibitory effects of nitric oxide synthesis, pro-inflammatory cytokines, cyclooxygenase 2, leukocyte migration, vascular permeability, radical scavenging activity of HwalHyelTangkami(Huoxuetangjiawei) extract(or concentration). In experiment 2 and 3, rats were divided into non-treated normal group, porcine type II collagen immunized control group and collagen immunized and HwalHyelTangkami(Huoxuetangjiawei) treated group.

Results: In experiment 1, the results were as follows ; 1. Nitric oxide synthesis and Leukocyte migration has significantly inhibition effect by HwalHyelTangkami(Huoxuetangjiawei) extract. 2. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and cyclooxygenase 2(COX-2) were inhibited by HwalHyelTangkami(Huoxuetangjiawei) extract.
In experiment 2, the results were as follows ; 1. Body weight change in treated group has no significantly change. 2. Incidence of arthritiswas 75 percent in control group and 25 percent in treated group. 3. Arthritis score of treated group was significantly decreased(p£¼0.05) compared with control group at 18days. 4. Paw edema volume of treated group was significantly decreased(p£¼0.05) compared with control group at 20days after immunization. 5. Thickness of ankle joint of treated group was significantly decreased(p£¼0.05) compared with control group at 20days after immunization.

In experiment 3, the results were as follows: HwalHyelTangkami(Huoxuetangjiawei) treated group has no significantly change on body weight, paw edema volume, thickness of ankle joint and serum TNF-¥á level has no significantly change.

Conclusions: These results indicated that HwalHyelTangkami(Huoxuetangjiawei) has the anti-inflammation effects on the ICR mouse. And the higher inhibitory effects on the onset of collagen-induced arthritis in rats and the lower inhibitory effects on the progression of collagen-induced arthritis in rats.
