A Case of Prescribing Beewha-eum(Bihe-yin) for the Patient with Polyneuropathy Diagnosed as Deficiency Syndrome of Spleen and Stomach

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study is to report a case that polyneuropathy can be caused by deficiency syndrome of spleen and stomach.
Methods: The patient had eaten almost nothing and felt nausea for four months, so we diagnosed his case as deficiency syndrome of spleen and stomach in the point of oriental medicine, and prescribed Beewha-eum(Bihe-yin) for him with acupuncture, physical therapy and dosage of western medicine for a certain period. And we adopted several scales to estimate the progress of his symptoms.
Results: Soon after taking herbal medication with other treatments, the patient could recover an appetite and was able to eat without nausea. Besides recovering an appetite, other symptoms such as weakness and paresthesia of both legs were also improved.
Conclusions: In this case, we assume that Beewha-eum(Bihe-yin) play an important role in improvement of his polyneuorpathy. The Beewha-eum(Bihe-yin) is one of herb medications that correct deficiency syndrome of spleen and stomach. In the view of oriental medicine, spleen and stomach control the limbs. So in this case recovered stomach and spleen by Beewhaeum(Bihe-yin) improved the weakness and paresthesia of both legs. Therefore we can use Beewha-eum(Bihe-yin) for treating polyneuropathy caused by deficiency syndrome of spleen and stomach.
