The purpose of this study is to identify the factors related to awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in Korea. The subjects selected by using data of 2005 National Health and Nutrition Survey(NHANS) were 1,316 adults, aged 20 or over, diagnosed with hypertension. The analytical technique employed multiple logistic regression analysis and the major findings of this research are as follows.
First, awareness of hypertension was positively associated with age, family history of hypertension, self-rated health, regularly exercise, and health examination since 2 years ago in both males and females.
Second, treatment of hypertension was also positively associated with age, family history of hypertension, self-rated health, and health examination since 2 years ago in both sexes.
Third, the statistically significant factors related to control of hypertension were age, family history of hypertension, self-rated health, and health examination since 2 years ago in males, contrary to medical security, Body Mass Index, alcohol intake, regularly exercise, and health examination since 2 years ago in females.
Finally, the results of analysis suggest that the government should especially focus on the vulnerable group to improve awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension.
