Analysis of Historical Context of Health Promotion and Structural Constraints

Abstract

|
|
The objective of this study is to analyze historical context of conditions of health promotion and to explore structural constraints. The conditions of health promotion include public health, healthcare system, and health administration and community. Social determinants of health has not been included in the strategies for health promotion since public health had been introduced to control over people rather than social efforts for health problem. Biomedical model has been basis of healthcare system and most of people agree with scientific trust of biomedical model and largely rely on it. In this context, it is hard to consider health promotion as a strategy to overcome the limitation of biomedical model. Little autonomy of health administration in local government and lack of experiences in terms of public and community participation should be improved to elaborate the strategies of health promotion.
