Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine whether two types of usual source of care(USC), place and provider, can reduce unmet healthcare needs. Utilizing nationally representative data from the 2016 Korea Health Panel Survey, this cross-sectional study conducted multinomial logistic regression to investigate how such types of USC can be associated with two-different unmet needs, cost-driven unmet needs and non-cost-driven unmet needs. The findings revealed that both cases of those who have a usual place and usual provider were less likely to experience two-different unmet needs compared to those having no such sources. However, people over 50 with both health insurance and USC tended to have the cost-driven unmet needs, whereas those under 50 with both of them were prone to experience the non-cost-driven unmet needs. Based on the findings, this study discussed a few policy implications.
